Single Tooth Dental Implants

If you have lost an individual tooth from your smile, you may be thinking about what your options are regarding replacing it and restoring the function and appearance of your tooth. One of the choices that our experienced and knowledgeable team will discuss with you is a solution called single tooth dental implants.

What are single tooth dental implants?

Single tooth dental implants are exactly as their name describes – dental implants that are designed to replace single teeth that have been lost as a result of dental decay or damage. Each single tooth dental implant requires three components. These are:

  1. A titanium post

  2. A custom-designed porcelain crown

  3. A special connector to hold the two together

Dental implants have a totally unique design that many experts believe makes them superior to alternative tooth-replacement solutions. This is because each single tooth dental implant has an artificial root that anchors the visible part of the solution permanently to your jaw. This artificial root is created using the titanium post.

The implant post

Titanium is a biocompatible material which means that it won’t get rejected by your body. With each single tooth solution, the implant post is placed virtually in exactly the same place where the tooth root would have been, and it is placed into the jaw bone via an incision in the gum tissue. Once in place, the bone will begin to heal around the implant post to anchor it permanently into your jaw. This is called osseointegration and takes several months, during which time, your implant won’t be secure. You will be fitted with a temporary crown while this takes place, which will enable you to use your tooth.

The crown

The crown is the visible part of your dental implant solution and will be custom-designed specifically to fit in with the shape, size and general appearance of the rest of your teeth. To do this, our dental team will take both photographs and impressions of your teeth. These will then be used to design and mill your crown which will be placed when you return to our offices once osseointegration has occurred.

What are the benefits of single-tooth dental implants?

There are numerous benefits that help make single tooth dental implants a superior choice when compared with dental bridges. These include the following:

  • A solution that looks and feels just like a regular tooth

  • A crown that is custom-designed to blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth

  • A solution that is permanent

  • A replacement tooth that won’t move or pull out when you eat, drink, sneeze, laugh and kiss

  • Your artificial tooth is easy to clean and can be cared for in the same way as your natural teeth

  • Minimal maintenance is required to keep your implant looking and feeling great

  • Restored confidence in your smile

  • Improved oral health

  • A stronger, healthier jaw bone as the implant post prevents deterioration associated with tooth loss

  • A great investment in your oral health since with the right care, a dental implant will last upwards of 20 years
