If an emergency happened near you, there is a number that you’d probably call almost automatically. A professional would probably be on the other end who could calmly help you know what you can do. But in the case of a dental emergency, would you know what to do? We want to help you by providing you with some directions for a few common different dental emergencies you might encounter:
-If a tooth is knocked out, it can be held by the crown and the root can be rinsed gently if it is dirty. You should NOT scrub or remove any tissue that is attached. If you can, put it in a glass of milk and bring the glass with you to our dentist.
-For a tooth that is broken, your mouth can be rinsed with warm water and ice can be used to reduce swelling. You should also come and see us as soon as you can.
-You can rinse your mouth with warm water and gently floss if you have a toothache, but if the discomfort persists, you may need to come and see Dr. Jayson C. Haws.
-If a lip or tongue gets bitten, you could gently clean the area with a cloth and some ice can help to reduce swelling. If the bleeding hasn’t stopped after a short time, or is heavy, you should get medical attention immediately.
