So, you’ve broken a bracket. What in the world do you do now? Well, we’re happy to tell you! Whether you’ve broken your bracket because you ate chewy, sticky foods, experienced an oral injury, or improperly brushed or flossed your teeth, there are a few things you can do to help the situation. Those things include:

No. 1: Find out if the bracket is still attached to the wire. If the bracket is still attached, place orthodontic wax around it so it doesn’t move or slide. If it’s not, take the bracket out of your mouth and bring it into the office with you during your next appointment.

No. 2: Deal with any poking or protruding wires. If there is a piece of wire that is bothering you because of the broken bracket, you can clip the wire with fingernail clippers. Just make sure you clip it as close to the base as possible. You can also try bending the wire back into place with a pencil eraser or with a Q-Tip.

No. 3: Book an appointment as soon as possible. The sooner you get your bracket fixed, the sooner you will have your perfect smile.

If these tips are not helpful, please feel free to call our office today and talk to a member of our caring and friendly orthodontic team. We are here to help you in any way we can, and we are happy to help you through this inconvenient experience.
